GOD’S PLAN FOR SALVATION
There are several ways the Bible describes this event. Saved, conversion, new birth, redemption. Basically it means to be forgiven of your sins so that you’ll be prepared to go to heaven when you die. You may ask “What do I do to be saved“
The Simple answer is “Believe what God says in His word, the Bible”
What does the Bible say?
THE BAD NEWS
WE ARE ALL SINNERS
Romans 3:10 “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.”
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.”
THERE IS A PENALTY FOR SIN (ETERNAL DEATH)
Romans 6:23a “For the wages of sin is death…”
THE GOOD NEWS
GOD HAS PROVIDED THE WAY OF FORGIVENESS
WE HAVE A MERCIFUL GOD
Jesus Christ died for our sins. Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
God offers salvation freely. Romans 6:23b “…but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”
HOW CAN WE RECEIVE THIS GREAT GIFT?
WE MUST REPENT OF OUR SIN
“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” ~ II Peter 3:9 “I tell you, nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” ~ Luke 13:3 “Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” ~ Acts 20:21 Scripture clearly teaches that just believing intellectually that you are a sinner, that God loves you, and that Christ died for you is not enough. You must apply this to yourself personally by repenting and believing on the Lord Jesus Christ as your own Savior. Repentance is a change of mind that causes us to turn from our sins.
WE MUST TRUST IN JESUS CHRIST
“And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.” ~ Acts 8:37
“And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved…” ~ Acts 16:31
“But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him (Jesus) that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” ~ Romans 4:5
Scripture teaches us that we are to place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone. We cannot please God and be saved, unless we trust in Christ and rely on Him completely.
WE MUST BE SAVED BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE
“…behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” ~ II Corinthians 6:2 “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:” ~ Isaiah 55:6 “And whosoever was not found written in the book of life (saved) was cast into the lake of fire.” ~ Revelation 20:15
